My name is Dan Fleming, and have lived near Columbus my entire life. I am a teacher at Hope Elementary. I also work as a farm broadcaster for a local radio station. Prior to teaching, I operated a large feedlot in Bartholomew County. My wife Lynne and I own and operate Fleming Family Beef Inc. through which we sell freezer beef delivered directly to customers.
For several years now, my wife Lynne and I have seen the value of marketing farm raised products directly to consumers. So far, it has been the middle to high income customers that have most likely taken advantage of these products. While I would like to see sales increase in general, I would especially like to make farm raised food be more available to a broader customer base.
While I have a strong background in agriculture, for over twenty years I have been a full, and part time employee of Reising Radio Partners. This business connection has provided me with a level of expertise in both business concepts and marketing strategies. From what I have learned through this experience, and the lessons learned from my own farm-to-consumer business, I feel I can be a benefit to the Columbus Co-op board.
I am a current member of the Bartholomew County Rural Electric Cooperative. This experience has provided me with knowledge of how a board works to provide the most benefit to the co-op members.
